California State ParkPfeiffer Big Sur State Park has an active guided hikes, Junior Rangers, and Ranger Cubs programs through the summer months; Memorial Day through Labor Day. A series of activities for the whole family. Park day use fees apply for Nature Walks and daytime activities.

"Movie Night: Hummingbirds: magic in the air"

Join us for a one hour film celebrating the tiniest of birds. Stunningly beautiful high-definition, high-speed footage of hummingbirds in the wild help us understand their world as we never have before.

Saturday, August 19th
10:00 a.m.
JUNIOR RANGERS (children ages 7-12 only)

Geology Rocks!!! Come have some fun with the rocks of Big Sur. Meet Park Interpreter Sara for one hour of activities and games at the Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park Campfire Center.

11:30 a.m.
Ranger Cubs: Earth (ages 6 and under)

Children and parents join Park Interpreter Sara for a half hour of fun. Hear stories about our planet and make your own finger paint earth art.

8:00 p.m.
Campfire Program "Creatures of the Night"

Join park interpreter Sara for a peek into the night life of Big Sur. Discover how animals adapt to life in the dark during this one hour program. Wear warm clothes and bring a flashlight (red if you have one)

Monday, August 21st
9:00 a.m.– 11.30 a.m.
"Solar Eclipse Viewing Party"

Learn a little about the solar eclipse and view it safely with solar glasses, solar viewing scope, crafts and more. Big Sur is not on the path of totality but we will get a 70% partial eclipse, peaking at 10:15 am. Never look directly at the sun without appropriate protection. Meet park staff and enjoy this 2 1/2 hour event at our campfire center.

"Movie Night: Saving Otter 501"

Join us for a one hour film sharing the story of Monterey Bay Aquarium's 501st attempt to save an orphan otter. Follow Otter 501 as she learns how to dive, hunt, eat and fend for herself in the wild, where survival is a long shot at best.TV-PG

"Movie Night: The Best of Big Blue Live"

Big Blue Live celebrates a wildlife success story and marine animal phenomenon in Monterey Bay, California. This is a one-hour film.


Ernst Ewoldsen Nature Center
Located along the Warden's Path on the south side of the Big Sur River is open for visitors every day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Come discover what lives here in the park!

Molera Ranch House Museum
Find out what it was like to live in Big Sur 100 years ago? Located at Andrew Molera State Park, the Ranch House is open for visitors Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

California Condor Discovery Center
Come learn about the magnificent condors and the reintroduction program run by the Ventana Wildlife Society. The center is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at Andrew Molera State Park.

Thank you for visiting Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Please be patient as we work to re-open areas of the park after the Soberanes Fire and winter storm damage. Buzzards Roost, Pfeiffer Falls, Valley View, Mount Manual and the Big Sur Gorge remain closed due to damages. For the latest information visit the Big Sur Station or Park Entrance kiosk. Please stay out of all closed areas and watch for falling rocks and trees in these zones.

ON-GOING TOURS AND VISITORS CENTERS

Point Sur Lightstation State Historic Park Tours
"Walking Tour into the Past" Volunteer led, three-hour walking tour on paved road. The walk is less than a mile but with a rise in elevation of 300'. Meet along the West Side of Highway 1, ¼ mile north of Pt. Sur Naval facility. Arrive early. Tour size limited.
